New Rules for Driving in Florida

February 16, 2013|  Article By :   |

New car hire laws for Florida and the USA stipulate that all drivers must now have an International Driving Permit (IDP) obtainable from the Post Office. Please see further information below.

International Driving Permit (IDP) Information:
The USA have recently changed the law on international drivers and have now stated that all international drivers who wish to drive in the state of Florida must possess an International Driving Permit as well as a valid UK driver’s license in order to legally drive/hire a motor vehicle. Therefore, all drivers on the rental contract must have an IDP, both parts (if applicable) of a valid UK driving license and a major credit card with them in person in order to hire the vehicle. It will be treated as an illegal offence if you do not have an IDP when driving in the state of Florida.

We have included links below for more information on how to obtain the IDP (International Driving Permit). Please note that it must be obtained before you travel and is available from the Post Office.

Whilst we have been notified it is currently just the state of Florida that have imposed this new regulation we believe that it is just a matter of time before other states adopt the new regulations, so therefore we would like to advise that you obtain the IDP if you are visiting any area of the USA for your car hire to be covered.
